“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
Dr. Seuss,
Reading is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols, in order to construct or derive meaning. It is a means of language acquisition, of communication, and of sharing information and ideas. In other words, we may say that is a receptive skill, because we are receiving the language instead of producing it.
There are some steps that are very useful wheN we are
ready to read, and I would explain them generaly.
PRE READING: This first step is very important for the
process, a pre reading moment make give the student a general idea about what
is coming next. This would let us know the previous knowledge of students and also
activate their schemata, prediction could be very useful on this step.
WHILE READING: In this point students are already in
what reading means, they should take their time to have a good understanding of
the text.
POST READING: During this step, teachers must check students understanding from the text, by asking questions about the story. That may
give us the clue of our students knowledge from the book.
However, we may be sure what is the main purpose of the
reading, and that is why we have the subs kills which are scanning, skimming
and reading for detail, make help us to know why we are reading for. The general idea of the subs
kills is to have different views from the reading.
Personally this is one of my favorite skills, not only
performing the skill, but also teaching it, I am sure that if students receive
a good introduction to the reading skill, they may enjoy it a lot.
On the next video you
may listen to an expert, talking about some good strategies fo teaching reading
