LEXIS

If we are going to talk about language, definitely we have to talk about lexis.  It refers to individual or sets of words that have an specific meaning.

Language is full of words, compounds, prefixes, suffixes, idioms and collocations ,are some of the elements that expand the great world of the lexis, we may have the same word in different contexts and this would have a different connotation.

As I just said there exist many different lexical features that make language very complex, This at one hand may be positive and gave power to language, but at the same way it may cause a lot of trouble for people who is trying to learn a different language.

False friends, homophones and even homonyms, may be an example of what I just mentioned above, they are the ones that make language even more complex.

If we have clear the importance of lexis when learning a language, we must have to know, how to use them on the teaching moment.

Telling a story, showing pictures, using songs, showing realia, and watching a movie may be some ways to introduce vocabulary to our students, and they could be very useful on the teaching time, we should consider the continuos use of them into the classroom.

The following video gave us and idea of how to work inside the class with children, the teacher introduces how a word may change by using affixation. It would be a good idea to apply it in our lesson planings.
